Flea Market and Bank
Apr. 12th, 2022 09:22 pmToday, we went to a big, open air market in the old part of Lisbon. At first, I was pretty overwhelmed, but eventually, we were able to find some cool silverware, plates, a bowl, and a cup (that we will use to hold toothbrushes). Also, on the way to the bus stop, I noticed a store selling beans in bulk. I went inside, and they had split peas! I've only been able to find split peas (the yellow ones) in the "ethnic" section of one big grocery store (the ethnicity in this case was Russian). These were green split peas, and I was able to get a couple of kilos. I also picked up some red lentils, although those aren't hard to find here. So, that part of the day was very successful.
This evening, I finally wrote back to one of the banks we're trying to get an account with. They wanted all kinds of additional details and paperwork (like a copy of the deed to our house in the US to show that we aren't lying about that, even though we have already them documents from the company that manages the rental of the house for us and the tax documents from them). The last thing on the list that the bank wanted was a copy of our visa application. You know, for the visa we can't apply for until we have a FUCKING BANK ACCOUNT. The lady from the company that is trying to help us get this account was like, "Well, do you have an appointment for the visa?" No. I don't. You know why? Because I don't have a bank account. And since we've been waiting months for this account, I would have had to cancel any appointment that I had, because we still don't have the account.
