Day 2 in Vilnius
Dec. 16th, 2017 08:26 pmI am fascinated by the changes my diet has caused. The physical ones are interesting, but the drastic changes to my food preferences are really surprising. When I ate bread last March (for a blood test), I thought it was disgusting. It had no texture. It was like eating goo that had been cooked (which is kind of what bread is).
Now, that bread wasn't especially fresh, so I've always harbored a secret suspicion that it was just that bread and not all bread. However, today, I started my breakfast with peanuts and farmer's cheese, and my body made it clear that this wouldn't do. Where were the vegetables? I did eventually eat some cauliflower, cucumber, and broccoli, but I didn't really feel like myself until I was able to have some spinach and celery. I've wondered if I could get by on cheese, peanuts, and sausage, but it seems that after a year of eating mostly vegetables, leaving them out doesn't cut it. Interesting!
As for what we did today, here is a video.
Some photos

A very old gate that houses a famous icon

Pope John Paul II praying before the icon.

The other side of the gate with the icon

By the way, the icon was surrounded by hundreds of silver hearts. I wish we could have taken photos for you.
There are so many awesome churches here!
