First, today, I did much better walking. I was able to get to the store and back without holding onto Joel for help. It helps immensely if I focus on the ground a few feet ahead of me. I mentioned to Sasha recently that the feeling I'm getting is the one where you think that the ground is farther or closer than it really is and then you stumble. Joel says he has this problem when he gets new glasses. Now, we know that I have mefloquine-related vision problems, and I have been having a horrible time doing anything that requires reading. My brain signals to me that it doesn't want anything to do with whatever it is each time. I've also noticed that my close vision has gotten even worse. I had planned on going to the local eye doctor. However, Joel suggested that we actually go to someone who works with people with brain injuries. Last time I was there, I could see that local eye doctor didn't have that kind of training. So, when I get back, we'll work on finding someone. I'm really excited about that. I'm also happy that it looks like I should be able to walk through the airports without falling or needing to get a wheelchair.

Second, the dreaded sick Peace Corps volunteers group is becoming much less "dreaded". It is such a relief to interact with people who don't have egos that need to be managed (at least, not to any great extent). They are also thinking about how to best manage the work, so that no one gets overwhelmed. Thinking!!!! Planning!!!! It is so nice! In the past, I have gotten into relationships of one form or another with toxic people who I end up enabling. While the former leader of the group isn't a bad person, she is needy and toxic when she doesn't get her way. I am happy to occasionally talk to her in a social context, but working with her was hell and was making me sicker. I am so glad she is no longer involved in the group. What a relief!
