Time for better security

lillilahI'm doing another round of security upgrades for my life online. I use a password manager, a good secure password generator, and a program that encrypts a lot of my traffic. However, there are things that I do (like reusing usernames) that could be better. Also, there is at least one website that I must have used a lot (I think it is LiveJournal), which is hemorrhaging passwords like crazy. They are all old passwords, but I'm pretty pissed about it.
My plan for dealing with this is to use email plus notation. This is available with at least a few ISPs I've used. So, for example, if my username is monkey@madhouse.org, I could use monkey+livejournal@madhouse.org, and it would automatically go to my regular email. However, I'd be able to see that it went to the +livejournal address, so I'd know exactly who got my address from whom. I'm going to do my best to change over all my accounts to using this system. Probably, I'll change my passwords, set up two factor authentication, and see if I can update security questions at the same time. I'm also going to stop reusing usernames. I'm going to use D&D monster names for now, but eventually I may have to write a generator (having one that made Lovecraftian sounding names would be fun... so that they were like "creeping horror" or "lurking cultist"). Anyway, that's my plan for when I get home.
