Bathroom repairs and a bit of cleanup
Aug. 27th, 2022 11:05 pmOur bathroom has been repaired and is now back in its previous state. Thank goodness! I finished making a patchwork bathmat, which I love, but it is a bit too lumpy for Joel. We're hoping that some non-slip padding will help it be more comfortable to stand on. (I hope so, because I love it.)
In addition to that, I realized yesterday that I could use cardboard for one of my upcoming projects that I was going to make of wood. Since it was going to be very large, this is going to save a bunch of money. I already have the cardboard (water heater box), and it is just about the right size. Yay! I will build up the whole structure out of cardboard, paper, and glue (to hold full sized suitcases) and then use a wood graining tool to make it look like something other than a big cardboard box. There are a ton of videos online for how to do it, so I expect that it will work out. I already have plans for other places I can use the wood grain tool too.
Once I realized that I could use the water heater box for that, I decided that I really needed to clean up the room where we are storing all this cardboard. I did that today, and it is definitely less of a disaster. The computer hutch is also coming along nicely. I expect that I'll be ready to paint the main body of it in a few days. Probably. I am going to try to make texture paste out of water, baking soda, and glue to give whole thing a less cardboard-like texture. So far, I haven't gotten texture paste to work well for me. It always cracks, which is okay, as I'm often making things that look like they should have cracks. Still, I'd prefer no cracks. Hmm... I wonder if I could use some of the acrylic pouring medium in there to help. (I bought it to experiment with.) Anyway, we'll see what happens.
