I went on a nice walk this evening up toward the big forest park north of us. On my way back, an older man, who had no voice and spoke only in a whisper, asked me about my hiking pole. Many older ladies in St. Petersburg used hiking poles instead of canes, which makes sense, as they are so light and easy to use. Anyway, in a terrible combination of Portuguese and Russian plus some gestures and typing on my phone, I was able to convey that I bought the poles on the internet and that they are great. He seemed pleased with our conversation too. I resolved to find a local place where people can buy them, and Joel helped out as soon as I got home. Now, I just need to make a note of where.

In other news, the dyeing turned out well. I don't know about the colors in the photos, but in real life, they look pretty good. I think I've got some ideas for how to improve the dyeing (by using folds in the fabric similar to tie dyeing), so hopefully, they will look even better in the next incarnation.
