Phosphatidyl Serine Test - First thoughts
Mar. 25th, 2018 11:46 amSo, I picked up a container of phosphatidyl serine pills yesterday, since it is supposed to help with cortisol and memory. Mainly, I'm interested in it for the cortisol part. There seem to be few negative side effects, so I figured that if it does nothing, at least it won't kill me.
Yesterday, after I got home, I took a pill. This was 100mg of phosphatidyl serine, 100 mg of choline, and 50mg of inositol. I try to avoid getting these mixed pills, but I couldn't find anything else (Note: it seems like these are all components of soy lecithin, so it isn't that they were added, probably, but instead that X amount of processed soy lecithin contains these things). The pill made me dopey. I was able to get things done, and I felt mostly okay (until bedtime, although bedtime is often bad). However, I felt lethargic and had more trouble with memory and motivation than usual.
Now, I often have trouble with new vitamins. I even had trouble when I started wearing compression socks, so I'm willing to give this a few days. When I started taking niacinamide, 250mg made my eyes as big as dinner plates - clearly way too much. Now, I take between 500mg and 1000mg depending on what my body is up to.
Today, I took .25g out of one of the phosphatidyl serine gelatin caps (which weighed .77g according to my scale). I just put it in some water and drank it. Not surprisingly, it tasted like soy lecithin. My first feeling was a bit of anxiety (could have been from my regular vitamins, I guess), followed shortly by a heaviness in my limbs and greater trouble than usual remembering words (just like yesterday). I'm starting to feel slightly better now, but I'm definitely not happy with this feeling.
So, that's where I am right now. Since this stuff makes me kind of sleepy and definitely stops any racing thoughts (or, honestly, any thoughts at all, since my mind feels like a sedated cat right now), I might end up only taking it when I feel really bad or right before bed. I'll decide this evening how much (if any) I want to take tomorrow. At the moment, I'm considering half of today's dose.
