Anxious but okay
Nov. 1st, 2022 09:52 pmWell, today was okay, although it could have gone better. We were supposed to be in our apartment in the early evening to wait for someone to come and look at the roof for the downstairs neighbor. However, they didn't show. It turns out that they came and went without needing to look at our apartment, and our neighbor just didn't tell us. * sigh * It isn't really bad, just annoying, as there are things that we need to do outside the house. Tomorrow, there is no one scheduled to come, so we can finally start on some of these errands.
In good news, I've almost finished the covers for the bench cushions. They just need button holes and buttons now. I'll start on that tomorrow. I also got another tree completed on the closet box and fixed some of the problems with shadows from the previous day. I'm still not sure if I like how the stump turned out, but it isn't too offensive. I've used enough different colors of leftover paint that I've started to get an idea of what colors I need for the computer hutch. It looks like it is mainly a gold yellow, dark brown, and a ton of white. That's fine. I've got a big bottle of white. I may not bother to paint the whole back of the hutch. We'll see what Joel thinks. It is huge, no one will see that part, and paint is expensive. We'll see.
I also made a bit more progress on the story website. I've almost finished with all the problems that I was having with the list library (literally, a library to support making lists with list items having details, websites, images). The image library is less developed, and my coding for it is less standardized. For example, I don't have it set up to have a button to delete an image. Obviously, you want to be able to delete the image. Likewise, I didn't have it set up to handle multiple images. I already know from the phone app that I use for writing that I want to be able to have multiple images (of a character or a location, for example). I can't remember if I've already written that code for my travel website. If I have, then I can copy it. I'll have to check.
I'm still pretty anxious overall. I'm sure that Portuguese daylight savings didn't help with that either. Probably that will get better with time.
I am having a grand ol' time reading Daemon by Daniel Suarez. It started out kind of lackluster, but now I'm halfway through and super impressed. The tech seems pretty accurate to me (and since he used to be a tech consultant....). Oh, and Suarez has some really good links on his website. All the manipulation and deception in the book reminds me of my beloved single player Starcraft, which has an incredibly convoluted plot of constant backstabbing and changing allies. Now that I think of it, I loved The Maltese Falcon for more or less the same reason. Ahh, backstabbing, lies, and deception.... I also love books about video games, or at least, I loved the video game elements in Ender's Game and in this book. I can't remember if I've read others. Clearly, I should read Ready Player One.
