Portuguese listening

Well, that sucked. I had my usual Portuguese class today. We have been working on a sample of the test that I'll have to take in a couple of years to get permanent residency. I've been just fine with all the sections, and at the end of today's lesson was the listening test. You have one minute to read a question or two, then you hear a short text twice. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Over and over and over for half an hour. I only had about 12-14 minutes of this. The text is intentionally full of background noise. There is little time to figure out what the text says, so you better get it on the first read-through. This is universally considered to be the hardest part of the language test. The problem isn't that I didn't understand what they were saying (which I was more or less able to do). It is that this pretty much hits on every single part of my disability. I couldn't read long sentences fast enough (because of my vision problems related to reading). I don't do well with time pressure. I can't process things quickly, etc. It was just horrible, but I would have been okay if that had been it. Unfortunately, my brain doesn't recover from this kind of stuff until I sleep, so I lost the entire day to it. I couldn't focus well enough to paint or write anything, but I was able to go on a very short, very slow walk, do the laundry, feed myself, and buy fabric. I'm happy about the buying fabric part, as there are things I want to make (like another pair of sleeping pants, some jackets, and a new purse) that I really need fabric for. I had been really looking forward to potentially finishing a painting and the podcast today, but it was just not to be. Oh, well. I did get to listen to MurderBot, so that makes up for a lot. Oh, and I'm going to see what my options are for not having to take this test in a timed fashion.
