Ocean and skies
Aug. 1st, 2023 07:50 pmI did a bit of swimming in the ocean today, which was lovely. The water is this lovely clear jade. It was also surprisingly chilly at the beach, which is better than roasting.
I also finally worked on my sky test-paintings again. The color of blue that I used was not right, so I'm trying again with ultramarine blue. I've also decided that the horizon is not blue mixed with white, but instead that gray you get when you mix blue, burnt umber, and white. I'm still totally dissatisfied with the result from mixing white and blue above the horizon. There seems to be a spot where the color changes from gray to blue, but titanium white is making it too flat. Maybe I've said this before, but I think trying out a transparent white will help. I'll have to wait until I get home to do that. Once the whole painting is dry tomorrow, I'll take a look at it to see what I think about that blue. I'll probably also start working on clouds if I don't think there is anything to be gained by painting more skies.
