Interesting thoughts on Video Gaming
Mar. 22nd, 2019 11:01 amI'm coming up on 1,000 hours played in Fallout 4. I'm not there yet, but it is on the horizon. It is a game that involves a lot of shooting, and I will admit that when I hear various songs from the 1940s, I get the feeling that I'm creeping through a dangerous wasteland with my trusty sniper rifle. That being said, I don't go around killing people in my normal life and am displeased with the oversimplification that (as was said of D&D back in the day) video games make people into killers.
On the flip side, first person shooters can be good training for people who want to kill others. Today, I read two articles that had interesting things to say on this topic. The first is about taking responsibility, and the second shows how at least some antisocial behavior can be curbed. The solutions of the first article would be far more effective, I think, if they also used the solutions of the second.
