One thing that always happens when I start sending out requests to get permission to use songs on my podcast is that I don't get many responses at first, which convinces me that it is going to be a huge struggle. I end up a bit frustrated and upset... only to then get a bunch of responses. I've been working on sending out requests, and the result has been exactly like that. I didn't get too upset this time, but I was thrilled when I found that I have enough permissions for a new episode (as I was starting to stress, because the episode is overdue). On top of that, I found two more responses in my inbox this afternoon, so I don't need to be too worried. Phew! I'm going to try really hard to keep up with the requests while I work on the episode, so that I don't have so many delays. It would be ideal if I could get my permissions all set at the beginning of the year for the episodes that I'll play. In theory, I have enough songs that I would like to play to be able to do that. However, I definitely won't get responses from many of those musicians. So, we'll see.

The other music-related thing that I worked on today was my top 100 list. I've been going through songs I had marked to go on the list in previous years to make sure I was still interested. Some songs didn't make the cut. Some news songs showed up. Many of the older ones that I liked stayed. I'm really glad that I took the time to listen to some of the symphonies, since I am less likely to do that when I'm trying to sort songs. Now that I've figured out what I want on the list, I need to import the new songs into the database, which ran into some issues (ie, the program coughed up an error and died). I use similar code in this database and in the podcast database, so I may be able to just slot in the code from the podcast database to fix this problem. We'll see!

I was really glad to make progress on both these things, since they were at the top of my list for things to get done. I also made a bit of progress catching up with the budget.

In other news, I took the images that I painted for the lower cabinet doors on the hutch, cut them out, and glued them on. They look great! Also, I was really pleased to discover that a damp washcloth removes most pencil marks from on top of the acrylic paint. The eraser I had been using was just smearing the graphite all over everything. I also have been reading through one of my longer stories again (I stopped but now am back at it) and am really enjoying it.
